Military Aviation needs innovative hangar solutions due to tight scope requirements. Conventional sliding hangar doors require a large amount of unusable space and site constraints of conventional hangars with door pockets have in some cases limited the size of the hangar. Traditional doors do not provide a tight closure, leading to bird infestation and air infiltration problems. In Northern ice and snow climates, traditional doors allow energy loss and the snow and ice build-up renders the track system difficult to clean and operate. Under these conditions, a special heating system to keep the track warm and operable is usually installed. Additionally, alert facilities require extreme reliability of the door system for instantaneous egress.
All Megadoors are specifically engineered for the particular application being considered. The Megadoor design engineering team provides proven expertise in working with designers and builders resulting in creative consultative engineering solutions to "marry" the door with the structure. The compact design and light weight of the Megadoor reduces the size and structural requirements of the functional area of the door, thus dramatically reducing the overall building costs. Megadoor's unique mullion system allows innovative designs that can literally shape the hangar to the shape of the aircraft. The tightness of the virtually maintenance-free Megadoor with low infiltration drastically reduces problems with birds in hangars, and provides life-cycle energy cost savings. And, since there is no track with the vertical lifting Megadoor, ice and snow problems disappear.
