New hangar door, Improve efficiency

Jet Aviation strengthens its image in Singapore with a Megadoor vertical lifting fabric door from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems

Jet Aviation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, was founded in 1967. The company has since grown into a world leader in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, which it provides to a wide range of business aviation customers.
One major focus for Jet Aviation is the increasing number of private jet owners, a customer group that is growing most rapidly in Southeast Asia. In order to serve these customers better, the company decided to expand its facility at Singapore's Seletar Airport by adding a new and state-of-the-art hangar.

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems provided

For the door of the new hangar, Jet Aviation chose a Megadoor vertical lifting fabric door from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems. Comprising five sections and measuring 94.0 x 13.5 m, its door leaves are made of white translucent PVC fabric, which has a clean, attractive appearance and lets in natural light. The metal parts are provided to an enhanced finish that resists corrosion.
Built into the bottom-center section of the door is a so-called Crawford Style solid panel, whose aluminum composite construction gives it a heavier appearance. Incorporated into this panel are two pass doors, which allow personnel to enter and exit the hangar without opening the hangar door itself.

Customer Challenges:

Seletar Airport is the fastest-growing airport for corporate air operators, yet Jet Aviation's existing space there was relatively small and anonymous. The company's aim was not only to expand, but also to provide a more upscale experience for its prominent clientele.
Everything, including the hangar door, had to be both functional and aesthetic, since the 5000 m2 building would serve as both workspace and high-profile showroom. Jet Aviation had high demands on the service life of the door equipment, which would need to withstand Singapore's high heat and 80% average humidity. In addition, the door would need to meet Singapore's stringent fire safety requirements.

Benefits with the solutions:

With the inauguration of the new hangar in May 2014, Jet Aviation entered a new era in its service to Singapore's business aviation customers. The company now has an attractive, high-quality facility – with an attractive and highly functional door to match.
Energy is saved by the translucent fabric's maximization of natural light, and when desired, the door height can be adjusted to provide cooling shade inside. Moreover, the Megadoor system has no ground tracks, as the mechanism is connected to the main truss of the building. This has the great advantage of allowing smooth passage for aircraft in and out of the hangar and eliminates the need to maintain any floor rails.
