Bombardier's Singapore service center impresses with its Megadoor vertical lifting fabric door from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems

Bombardier is a Canadian multinational aerospace and transportation company. In addition to being the world's only manufacturer of both planes and trains, the company has a substantial business within aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). While Bombardier's MRO operations are located mainly in North America, the company is working to expand its customer service elsewhere in the world. As part of this process, the company decided to open a full-scale service center at Singapore's Seletar Airport.

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems provided

Bombardier selected a Megadoor vertical lifting fabric door from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems for its Singapore service center. Measuring 73.6 x 12.2 m and comprising four sections, the door features translucent PVC fabric that lets in natural light. Moreover, the door's metal parts are fabricated with an enhanced finish to resist possible corrosion due to the local humidity, which exceeds 80% year-round.
Given the ambitious seven-month timeframe for the center's construction, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems ensured smooth and on-time installation by coordinating closely with the rest of the building project.

Bombardier has around 250 business jets in Greater China, India and the Asia-Pacific region – a number expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. The high-profile owners of these jets were in focus as Bombardier designed its new service center, an upscale facility with 3000 m2 of top-notch hangar space.
For the door of the new hangar, Bombardier needed a perfect match of function and form. Besides withstanding Singapore's heat and humidity, it would have to comply with Singapore's stringent fire safety regulations. Yet it would have to possess aesthetics worthy of the Bombardier name.

Opened in February 2014, Bombardier's new service center is already an important MRO hub for its Asia-Pacific customers. It is also an attractive facility, with a hangar door whose high functionality matches its good looks. Bombardier saves energy on lighting thanks to the natural light let in by the translucent fabric, and during the day the door height can be adjusted to provide cooling shade for the hangar's interior.
